Who would give up their wonderful summer vacation and travel 9,000 miles to cold snowy Virginia and join boarding school life? Meet Rachel Stephens, a rising senior student from Queen Margaret College in Wellington, New Zealand, on a mid-winter international exchange at St. Margaret’s School, Tappahannock.
January 5, 2011:
ST. MARGARET’S YOUNG ALUMNAE DAY
St. Margaret’s School hosted 34 former students for its Young Alumnae Day on Jan. 5. The annual event gives alumnae the opportunity to return to Tappahannock and share their college experiences with current students. This year’s attendees represented the last five graduating classes. The school also was thrilled to welcome back Annie Lee Welch, Class of 1949 and a member of the SMS alumnae board. Article by Virginia Sawyer.

November 11, 2010:
SMS SOFTBALL ATHLETE RECRUITED BY WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY
Heather Chastain, a four-year SMS day student and all-around athlete from Dunnsville, VA, signed her National Letter of Intent with Western Carolina University a four-year, division one college in Cullowhee, NC. Heather plans on majoring in psychology with minors in nutrition and dietetics.

SMS CAREER DAY - ALUMNAE RETURN TO SHARE EXPERIENCES
St. Margaret’s School’s bi-annual career day 2010 held on Monday, November 1st brought alumnae and professional women with widely diverse experiences in the working environment to the students and helped guide them through to consider their own educational and career choices. Five small group workshops ran throughout the day. Each started with presentations by the career representatives and concluded with a lively question and answer sessions.

SMS HOSTS THE HAVEN AS PART OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
The Reverend Candine Johnson, chaplain of St. Margaret’s School, has organized many support programs in partnership with The Haven said “as a girls’ school, we are particularly committed to ending the cycle of domestic abuse against women. Domestic violence and abuse is a community crisis and its prevention is a community responsibility---St. Margaret’s is committed to our community and its campaign to prevent domestic violence.

STUDENTS VENTURE TO EGYPT AND EXPLORE THE ANCIENT KINGDOM
A group of 27 students, faculty, alumnae and parents ventured to Egypt, spending 5 days in Upper Egypt on the River Nile visiting the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Karnak temple, Thebes, Luxor, and a Nubian school in Aswan.

LOCAL STUDENT TO COXSWAIN FOR CLEMSON UNIVERSITY
Meghan Sisk ’10 of Goochland daughter of Mark and Jane Sisk signed her letter of intent to Clemson University on Nov. 12.
